
The general purpose of the Local Knowledge Project is to better understand and document changes that are taking place in the environment, within the Dawson Region. The survey questionnaire was designed to document changes to hunting access, harvested species, trapped species, large game like moose and caribou, berries, edible plants and fish. Every year we have been conducting surveys with a core group of 20-25 knowledge experts. The information is used by the DDRRC to better understand what changes are taking place in the environment and the need for further wildlife or fisheries studies or harvest regulation changes. The Fall 2024 survey was the 8th consecutive year in which we have been conducting interviews. In addition to interviewing our core group of knowledge experts, in 2024 we provided an option for participants to take the survey online and invited the entire Dawson Community to participate.
