Chinook Salmon Restoration
Through conservation initiatives, youth engagement, media campaigns and in-the-field community involvement, our annual summer restoration projects aim to restore the threatened Klondike and Yukon River Chinook salmon species and the watershed ecosystems in which they thrive. Restoration of this key species would significantly reduce the immediate impacts to climate change and the return of a prolific salmon run would reestablish the species as a source of subsistence for Yukoners.

Local Knowledge Survey
Our survey has been designed to document changes to hunting access, harvested species, trapped species, large game like moose and caribou, berries, edible plants and fish. The Fall 2024 survey was the 8th consecutive year in which the DDRRC has been conducting interviews with a core group of 20-25 local knowledge experts. The survey information is used by the DDRRC to better understand what changes are taking place in the environment.
We have recently reduced the survey length and are inviting all Dawson Region residents to participate. The Council is hoping with a more simplified questionnaire and an increased sample size the data will better show local harvest trends.
To participate in the survey, please visit this website: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DawsonHarvestSurvey
If not able to participate in the survey online, contact the DDRRC to schedule an appointment to conduct a survey interview in person or over the phone.

Dawson City Fur Show
This biannual event was created to promote and celebrate the social, cultural, and economic benefits of the fur industry in the Yukon. Trappers from all over the Yukon can enter their furs to be judged. We intend to host the show again in 2027 during the Thaw di Gras Spring Carnival.

Community Trapline

Youth Trapping Program
Every February the DDRRC help bring the world of trapping to the classroom as part of the Robert Service School Trapping Educational Program. In partnership with Yukon Government Department of Environment and Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Educational Staff, Councillors visit classrooms Kindergarten to Grade 4 to deliver trapping talks, trapping demonstrations and a skinning workshop for students Grades 5 to 7.

Moose-Vehicle Collision Advocacy
The DDRRC continue to advocate for road safety upgrades within the Dawson City area to help reduce the occurrence of moose-vehicle collisions.

Butchering and Sausage Making Workshops
One of our most famous public engagements is our Sausage Making and Butchering Workshops. Participants are provided free instruction and take home what we make. The wild game is donated by local outfitters. Link to CBC News Story About This Project
